The PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner courses can be combined into one 5-day course. You will first complete the PRINCE2 Foundation before proceeding onto the PRINCE2 Practitioner content. In just one working week you could become a fully certified PRINCE2 Practitioner.

A PRINCE2 Foundation course is a great place to start your project management certification. It is the first of two PRINCE2 qualifications necessary to become a registered PRINCE2 practitioner.

Project management skills are useful and transferable across a breadth of roles but PRINCE2 Foundation is of particular use to:

  • Beginner and Veteran Project Staff
  • Any team already operating in a PRINCE2 environment
  • Project Managers
  • Programme Managers
  • Team Managers and Support Staff
  • Leadership
  • Consultants / Contractors

The foundation course includes the following:

  • The seven principles, seven themes and seven processes
  • The purpose and major functions of all project management roles
  • The inputs to and outputs from the seven processes
  • The key content and purpose of management products
  • The relationship between processes, deliverables, roles, and the management dimensions of a product

This syllabus is designed to help you think like a project manager and understand key terminology used in project management at a professional level.

There are no prerequisites to the course, but a basic understanding of project management will be advantageous. While the course is valuable by itself, to gain the PRINCE2 Foundation certification you will have to pass a 60-minute closed book exam which can be taken straight after the course or later. Once certified, you will be eligible to further your learning with the PRINCE2 Practitioner certification.

If you provide project management as a service, run your own projects internally or interact with external project management entities, a PRINCE2 Foundation enables consistent project delivery at every stage.

PRINCE2 Practitioner builds upon the knowledge acquired at Foundation level and enables you to apply the PRINCE2 methodology to real world project scenarios.

As a prerequisite, if you wish to sit the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam you must have earned one of the following certifications:

  • PRINCE2 Foundation (recommended)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)®
  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)®
  • IPMA Level A (Certified Projects Director)
  • IPMA Level B® (Certified Senior Project Manager)
  • IPMA Level C® (Certified Project Manager)
  • IPMA Level D® (Certified Project Management Associate)

The course is designed to prepare you for a 150 minute open book (official PRINCE2 manual) exam where you will:

  • Provide detailed explanations of all principles, themes and processes and worked examples of all PRINCE2 products as they might be applied to address the particular circumstances of a given project scenario
  • Demonstrate and apply an understanding of the relationships between principles, themes and processes and PRINCE2 products
  • Apply PRINCE2 to different project circumstances and scenarios
  • Demonstrate and understanding of the reasoning behind the principles, themes and processes of PRINCE2

The syllabus is designed to help you expand upon and apply your existing PRINCE2 knowledge to actual project work. PRINCE2 Practitioner is where theory meets application.
